Top 5 Investment Fund Managers In South Africa

Overview

Investment fund managers provide financial advice and services to private and corporate clients about a range of investment matters. These include buying and selling investment trusts and shares or bonds, to help these clients invest their money in the best places. 

In no particular order here are South Africa’s (SA’s) top 5 investment fund managers. 

1. Prudential  

It has proved to be the most consistent of the large investment fund managers. For the third year in a row, Prudential has been recognised as SA’s number one large asset manager. As, they won the 2018 Morningstar award for “Best Fund House (Larger Fund Range)” for the strong collective performance of their unit trusts for periods through 31 December 2017. 

2. Coronation  

It has maintained its position as South Africa’s leading collective investment scheme manager. For now Coronation remains the only listed large manager, with a franchise that should ensure that even with multibillion-rand outflows every year it will be a cash cow. 

3. Allan Gray 

Cape Town-based asset manager Allan Gray has retained its position as the country’s largest asset manager. Allan Gray walked off with the Raging Bull Award for the South African Management Company of the Year for the third consecutive year in a row. 

4. Investec  

Investec has topped the rankings for the best private bank to deliver research and asset allocation advice. As well as being ranked as the best bank for international clients in SA. 

This is according to annual Private Banking and Wealth Management Survey for 2018, published by UK finance magazine Euromoney. It ranked the best finance groups and asset managers for wealthy people across the world. 

The rankings are based on a survey undertaken by wealth managers and private banking groups themselves. On which other companies they believe are their biggest competitors therefore it serves as a peer review. 

5. Fairtree Capital 

Fairtree Capital, topped the list of the country’s best fund managers for investment performance. According to Investment research firm, Morningstar, latest analysis of South African asset managers. 

The asset-weighted ranking gives an assessment of an asset manager’s weakness and strength, in light of how investors allocated assets between available investment options within the fund range.
