Positive Effects Of Entertainment On Human Behaviour

Entertainment can be quite a subjective experience. For some people, it may be as simple as reading a good book, while for others it’s watching TV, binge watching series online, for some it’s gaming, watching a comedy show or a live music production.

The effects of entertainment on human behaviour continue to be explored.

In the 1950s, psychologists in the US were concerned about the effects of TV on children viewing it as they were concerned about whether it had any impact on their reading skills.

One of the negative effects that results from children playing too many games on tablets and smartphones is that there is a lack of face-to-face interaction which is needed to learn social skills.

There have been some major positive effects of entertainment on human behaviour as well.

For instance, senior citizens who participate in social media platforms are more likely to become more tech-savvy. Brain stimulation is a positive factor here, while social activity is encouraged by interactions on social media.

The penetration of expertise on television has made it easier to access information about health and wellbeing. Having access a Dr Phil show is much more likely to influence thoughts and action in a positive way for an individual with an interest in mental health and psychology.

It’s been said that laughter is the best medicine. For people who are watching a comedy show, the entertainment value extends beyond just making them laugh. It actually improves their mood as laughter has been proven to improve mental wellbeing.

One of the most positive effects of entertainment on human behaviour can be found in observing music enthusiasts enjoying live music. Numerous studies indicate that music stimulates the brain in various areas, while releasing chemicals such as dopamine, leaving people feeling happier. The mental stimulation brought on by this form of entertainment is still being studied.

Even though many parents are wary of having their children having too much screen time, technology does enable more connection in some ways. By entertaining themselves with online gaming, for instance, some children may connect with a wider network of gaming fanatics, leading to enjoyment, while the games stimulate them mentally.
