Woolworths was founded by Max Sonnenberg and opened its first Cape Town branch in 1931. Besides being a retail chain, specialising in food and clothing, it also has a financial services arm which offers loans, insurance, store accounts and credit cards.

A Woolworths Personal Loan is an “unsecured” loan, which means you don’t even have to provide security or have someone co-sign the loan for you.

Qualifying Criteria

  • permanently employed
  • earn at least R2000 per month
  • have a bank account
  • have a good credit record
  • have a valid South African Identity Document

Fixed Term Personal Loan

  • A choice of 12, 24 or 36 month repayment periods each time you borrow.

Revolving Personal Loan

  • A choice of 12, 24 or 36 month repayment periods.
  • Ability to withdraw a minimum loan of R1000, increasing in multiples of R500.

What is the cost of credit insurance? 

Balance Protection Insurance is available to Woolworths Store Card and Woolworths Personal Loan customers and covers death, retrenchment and critical illness. WFS offers basic balance protection at R4 for every R1000 borrowed and comprehensive balance protection at R4.50 for every R1000 borrowed. Comprehensive protection covers retrenchment as well. Borrowers can get additional death cover for R6.85 per month.
